Queen's great-granddaughter stole the show in birthday photo with 'naughty' move

It's a big day for one of the Queen's 12 great-grandchildren today - Mia Tindall is celebrating her eighth birthday.

Mia, whose parents are the Queen's granddaughter Zara and her former rugby player husband Mike Tindall, is sure to be having a lovely day with her family.

In years gone by, Mia, who is a similar age to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, was seen as one of the cheekiest of the royal children.

And almost six years ago she ended up stealing the show in the Queen's beautiful 90th birthday portrait taken with her younger relatives in a totally unscripted move, described as "naughty".

In the photo, taken by celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz, the Queen sits among her then great-grandchildren and some of her youngest grandchildren.

But the one stand-out youngster in the image is Mia, who is pictured holding Her Majesty's trusty black handbag after taking a shine to it.

But rather than the Queen telling her to put it back, the monarch allowed the then-two-year-old to keep hold of it.

Dad Mike previously told Good Morning Britain: "It just happened at the right time. She was being a bit naughty.

"The Queen got it quite right when she told her 'just hold the handbag now' and she did that. It ended up being a great photo of her.

'It just turned out to be the right photo at the right time and it will be something we'll always cherish, I think.

"She's got quite a little personality on her, and we encourage that."

Zara and Mike are also parents to Mia's sister Lena and baby brother Lucas, who was born last March.

And Mike also previously revealed they kept the news that Zara was pregnant with Lucas from Mia - fearing she would tell all of her friends at school.

Speaking on his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, he explained: "Z is very good, always careful because of things that have happened in the past, and really looking forward to it.

"We haven't told Mia yet because we knew she would tell everyone at school, now that we've gone through the scan, yes (of) course we'll tell her."
