Charbonnel et Walker, the Queen’s favourite chocolatier, on Monday said it is stockpiling ingredients to ensure it can keep making truffles smoothly after Brexit.

The Royal Warrant holder, founded in London in 1875, has been building up goods “for some time to ensure supply is not interrupted” in the event of border delays after March.

The comments came as Charbonnel et Walker, which makes its treats in West Dorset, posted results for the year to April 30.

Turnover edged up 0.4% to £13.2 million, and pretax profit was largely static at £1.6 million.

The firm said sales in the current financial year were given a boost when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married- customers snapped up a limited edition chocolate crown filled with a champagne truffle centre and decorated with edible gold.

Recent new product launches include coconut truffles.

As well as UK shoppers, the brand said it is popular with tourists from the Middle East, US and Japan.
