Queen's favourite alcoholic drink sells out at supermarkets as Britain toasts beloved monarch

The Queen's favourite alcoholic drink has been selling out at supermarkets as the country prepares to come together for her funeral.

Many have been looking for ways they can pay their respects to the late monarch, from joining in with moments of silence to seeing her lying in state in London. However, one BBC reporter noticed that her favourite drink had been selling out as many looked to make a toast to her life over the bank holiday weekend.

The BBC's Mark Williamson noticed the cocktail ingredients for Dubonnet and gin had completely sold out in a Waitrose on a recent visit. He posted a picture of an empty supermarket shelf, saying: "Dubonnet sold out at Waitrose - sent earlier this evening."

The 'fortified red wine aperitif' was also sold out on Tesco's website earlier this week as well as in House of Malt. DrinkSupermarket.com has also been wiped of the bottles.

The description of the drink on Drink Supermarket describes the drink as: "Made by Joseph Dubonnet to combat malaria for the French army, Dubonnet is the chosen drink for our late Queen Elizabeth II. A sweet wine with bitter notes made from a blend of fortified wine, herbs, spices and Quinine. Perfect for Her Majesty, so drink like a royal."

This drink also sold out during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
