Queen Rock Montreal will have its global streaming premiere on May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS. Originally released in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert became Imax's largest exclusive engagement. Now, it is set to debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also feature Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices.
The original concerts, showcasing the legendary lineup of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon, were held over two consecutive nights in November 1981 with the specific intention of being filmed for a full-length concert movie to capture their electrifying live performance. The setlist includes iconic hits like 'Another One Bites the Dust,' 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' and 'Somebody to Love.' The restoration for Imax was carried out by Mercury Studios, with executive producers from Mercury Studios and Queen Films.
This announcement further solidifies the longstanding partnership between Imax and Disney Entertainment. Marvel blockbusters that will also offer Imax Enhanced sound upon launch include titles such as Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy (Volumes 2 and 3), Black Widow, and Doctor Strange.
Imax's commitment to producing and distributing more concert films is highlighted by this news. Imax Enhanced devices, including supported models from leading manufacturers like Sony, Hisense, Sharp, Denon, and JBL, will provide viewers with an immersive audio experience.
