Queen returns toy monkey to girl, five, in Australia after it was left behind at Buckingham Palace

A five-year-old Australian girl who left a toy monkey at Buckingham Palace has been reunited with her cuddly companion after the Queen sent it back to her.

Savannah Hart was on holiday with her family when her toy, named Harriet, was misplaced.

Her mother, Katie, realised Harriet was missing the next day, but was unable to locate the toy monkey before they returned home to Australia.

Staff members from Woodside Kindergarten in Adelaide, where the monkey was originally taken from, took up the hunt and penned a letter to the Queen.

They politely asked her to search for the beloved monkey and also added photos of Harriet's travels from across the world.

"We put in lots of photos of Harriet's adventures around the world and all the children signed it and put it in an envelope and posted it off," said kindergarten teacher Robyn Herringer.

Surprisingly the next week the Palace responded stating Harriet was in good care and for good measure included photos of Harriet's adventures around the Queen's residence.

They then returned Harriet - alongside a new Corgi companion named Rex.

A Royal Collection Trust spokeswoman said: "We aim to give every visitor to Buckingham Palace a memorable experience and after we had found Harriet the monkey near the Family Pavilion, she spent some time helping out the Visitor Services team before heading home.

"We hope Harriet enjoyed telling Rex the corgi about her adventures on the journey back to Australia."
