The Queen has asked that there be no gun salutes to mark her 94th birthday next week.
This is the first time it has happened in her 68 year reign.
A source said Her Majesty was keen that no special measures were put in place to allow gun salutes as she did not feel it appropriate in the current circumstances.
It is understood the palace will not be marking Her Majesty's birthday in any special way.
Any contact with her family will be private and kept so.
There will be a social media post as per normal.
There will be no flag flying either at Government Buildings.
In the current circumstances it is not expecting everyone to be able to follow this advice and you should continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines as set out by the Government.
The decision is “in line with Her Majesty's wishes.”
There will be no trooping in June, as already announced, and there are no plans currently for any alternative marking of her official birthday.
