Euan East insists Queen of the South are “too good” to be near the bottom of the table and is thirsting for another win in their Boxing Day clash with Morton.
He set the Doonhamers on their way to an emphatic 3-0 home win over Ayr last weekend with a searing low volley to help haul them into seventh place.
Now East reckons Queens can clamber further up the Championship table and keep the unbeaten run going.
He said: “We have a brilliant team this year and are too good to be in the relegation zone.
“Hopefully we can build on that win over Ayr when we take on Morton and build on that performance too.
“We were always in control against them and didn’t feel under any threat and everyone played well, we all did our jobs.”
East slotted into a centre back role alongside Wullie Gibson for the win over the Honest Men.
He said: “I suffered a hamstring injury about five or six weeks ago and have only been training a few times in the past four weeks.
“I trained once before the Dunfermline game and then once again before we played Ayr.
“It was good to score that first goal against Ayr and to get a win, a clean sheet plus the three points. It was a perfect day.
“Now we are playing with a lot more confidence and that’s us scored six goals in two games and I really enjoyed it.
“Josh Todd got man of the match and he was exceptional and scored. He was everywhere on the pitch and deserved that award.
“Now next up is Morton and it would be good to get a wee run of wins going to get even more confidence and once you get that then nothing can stop you.
“We want to get as many wins as we can and not be down that bottom end of the table.
“We want to be looking above us in the table and not looking beneath us.”
Assistant manager, Sandy Clark, branded the triumph over Ayr last weekend as the club’s best performance of the season.
He added: “Now it’s Morton and Cappielow is never an easy place to go at any time.
“But we will go there with confidence and hopefully get another good result.”
