Queen of the South gaffer trying to solve goal problem ahead of Raith Rovers clash

Queen of the South boss Allan Johnston is working hard to find a solution for his goals problem.

The Doonhamers have scored just 10 goals in their opening 12 Championship matches and are three points off the bottom of the table.

With the visit of Raith Rovers at Palmerston tomorrow the manager is wanting his side to be more of a threat.

Allan said: “We’ve tried one, two and three strikers we’ve tried more or less everything.

“Hopefully we can get the balance right because we need to be a lot more aggressive going forward and we need to give them more chances to score goals.

“More through passes, get it forward, move it quicker and try and be more of a threat and try and work the keeper and hopefully we can do that.”

He added: “It’s going to be a hard game.

“Raith Rovers are a top quality team.

“This division is probably the hardest it’s been for years.

“It’s a really hard division. If you look at the teams that are playing week in and week out there are no easy games.

“We’ve got to be at our best week in and week out to get anything.”

There are some positives for the squad with Ally Roy continuing to get back to full fitness and Kieran McKechnie continuing his rehab from injury. Innes Cameron will return to the squad after having to miss the game last week against his parent club Kilmarnock.

Allan said: “Ally Roy played part of the game during the week (against Hamilton) and is getting up to speed. Hopefully he’ll get closer to fitness.

“Innes Cameron will come back in and he’ll be a big player for us with his physical presence.

“Kieran McKechnie’s doing a wee bit with the ball and is a bit away from joining in training but it’s a big progression even doing that. He’s just been running before that but it’s good news he’s moving forward.”
