Queen of the South boss issues battle cry ahead of Clyde clash

Queen of the South will come up against a team “fighting for their lives” tomorrow.

The Doonhamers head to Hamilton to face a Clyde side second bottom of League One and 19 points from safety.

But despite their opponents’ lowly position, Queens boss Marvin Bartley knows his team will need to be up for the battle.

He said: “We’re expecting a tough game – they’re a team fighting for their lives to make the play-off spot, which I think is the most realistic thing for them now as ourselves and Kelty are too far ahead.

“We’ll have to be ready for the physical battle, match them in that and let our football do the talking.

“We’ll look at their strengths and weaknesses and try to nullify their strengths and exploit their weaknesses.

“We’re trying to get a style of play between now and the end of the season we can build on for next season.”

The Palmerston side go into the match on the back of a thrilling 3-2 win over Airdrie in Dumfries.

Queens led 3-1 at one stage before the Diamonds pulled a goal back to create a nervy finale.

Bartley said: “Physically the boys gave everything and they were mentally strong.

“We’ve got a really young team, some absolutely babies, and going through those sorts of things will make them stronger and better.

“They’ve all got a massive willingness to learn. There will be peaks and troughs during this journey.”

Tomorrow’s game marks the start of the final quarter of the League One season.

With nine games left, Queens find themselves in seventh place, seven points from the play-offs.
