Allan Johnston has recruited a familiar face to his Queen of the South side – his son Max.
The 17-year-old, who turned professional in the summer, has joined from top-flight side Motherwell and plays at full-back.
He joined the Steelmen at the age of 12 and has also played for Scotland’s U19s.
Johnston said: “He has done well at Motherwell and has been involved with the first team, but in order to progress his career, they feel it is the right time for him to go out to try to gain more first-team experience.
“He is good going forward so that gives us other options and it gives us competition in the wider areas either at full-back or in midfield. So, he will be coming here to challenge for a first-team place.”
Johnston joins Ben Liddle as one of Queens newest signings. The 23-year-old central midfielder joined on a season-long loan from Bristol Rovers.
Meanwhile, Queen of the South keeper Josh Rae has opened up on his recovery from a horror clash which has left him with two metal plates in his face.
The 20-year-old was involved in a 50/50 clash with Kilmarnock’s Brandon Haunstrup and left the field with a bloody face at the start of August.

After successful surgery, he now feels he is over the worst of it.
He told the club website: “I’m feeling a lot better now, the hardest part is past with. It is about 10 days ago so I’m starting to feel better so come Tuesday I can hopefully start to work my way back and get some bike and gym work done to start with and build my way up from there.”
He added: “I wasn’t allowed to do anything for two weeks as I got two plates in my cheekbone and between my eye socket and my nose so it wasn’t very nice but it all went well and I’m looking forward to getting things done now. It’s been a hard couple of weeks so I’m just raring to get back.
“The quicker I get back doing stuff the better because the past few weeks have dragged in, just sitting about doing nothing, not being able to do anything but hopefully soon I can get back doing stuff.
“I feel I was just starting to find my feet and starting to really enjoy my time.
“To be back playing in front of the fans and stuff made it even better, hopefully I will be able to get back out there soon and get some games again.”
Queens take on Lowland League side Broomhill on Sunday at 2pm in the SPFL Trust Trophy.
The match has been moved to allow fans to attend Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
