Queen Mary’s Daughter Sends Royal Circles Into A Tizzy With F-Bomb T-Shirt

Royal circles are positively aflutter after the daughter of Tassie-born Queen Mary of Denmark, Princess Isabella, was seen sporting a swear word on a T-shirt at a music festival. Gasp!

The 18-year-old daughter of the monarch was spotted mingling with friends while attending the Smukfest music event in Skanderborg, Denmark, earlier this week.

While even royals are reserved the right to a hard-earned boogie, Isabella — who is second in the line of succession to the Danish throne after her older brother, Prince Christian — got tongues wagging with her decidedly un-royal choice of attire.

Translated to English, Isabella’s black tee was emblazoned with the phrase “fucked him yesterday” — which in royal terms, is about as controversial as when Genovia’s Mia Thermopolis famously told her grandma to “shut up!”

Proving herself to be a true music stan, the phrase is the title of a song by Danish band Suspekt, who performed at the festival and counted Isabella as one of their fans in the audience.

Naturally, since no one clutches pearls quite like royal-watchers, Isabella’s merch shirt drew criticism from some Danish royalists, with one commentator, Jarl Cordua, weighing in on the fiasco with a post on Facebook earlier this week.

“Isn’t that exactly what [the royal family’s] job is? To maintain a certain standard? To show some kind of style? Dignity? I doubt that everyone thinks that’s the case when a royal celebrates promiscuity on a shirt,” Cordua wrote.

“I wouldn’t recommend making it a habit,” he added. “Being royal is an obligation and it’s probably time for someone to tell [Isabella] that”.

On the opposing end, royal commentator Jim Lyngvild hailed the shirt as “the best PR move for the Royal House in many years”.

“I LOVE that our royal youngsters also have personality and courage – and don’t follow the neat pleated flow,” Lyngvild wrote on Facebook

Within this debate, I sit firmly on the side of the merch shirt being iconic, mostly because the sight of a mosher sporting a merch shirt at a music festival proves that Isabella can’t hide her Aussie roots.

She isn’t the only young royal to have caused a tizzy by breaking with tradition in recent weeks.

Last month, it was reported that Norway’s royal circles were opposed to Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s choice to pursue her studies at the University of Sydney, with one commentator apparently comparing the campus to a “prison stay”.

Petition for Isabella and Ingrid to launch a line of royal merch starts now.
