Queen launches pricey own brand of posh tomato ketchup and brown sauce

The Queen has launched her own brand of posh tomato ketchup and brown sauce - but the products have a royal price tag hanging around the bottle neck.

Her Majesty, 95, has put The Queen's Tomato Sauce, which is 'ideal for breakfast or any time of the day', on sale at her Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

But each bottle will set you back an eye-watering £7 - compared to Sainsbury's own brand, which sets you back just 60p.

The sauce, which is flavoured with dates, apple juice and spices, comes in a glass jar with a Royal Estate label.

It states on the bottle: "A real family favourite, packed full of tomato and lightly spiced, this ketchup is delightful. Vibrant and fruity, this ketchup can be enjoyed any time of the day, perfect to add flavour to a dish."

The Queen is also selling a brown sauce for the same price, with the description: "a tomato based sauced packed with vinegar and spices."

The Monarch is said to be a fan of the sauces but doesn't use the condiments on a regular basis.

The Queen's former chef Darren McGrady said in 2019 that kitchen staff would make their own versions of takeaway favourites for the royal family.

However, they never eat fast food - so you won't catch royal hands around a Big Mac any time soon.

He explained: "It always tickled me at Balmoral, we would make our own burgers. They would shoot deer, and we would do venison burgers.

"There'd be gorgeous cranberry and everything stuffed into them, but we never set buns out."

He went on to say: "Her Majesty's Victorian upbringing dictates that the only thing you would pick up and eat with your fingers is afternoon tea.

"They would have burgers, but not the buns. So they would eat it with their knife and fork."

He also said HM hates pizza and during his time in her service, not a single one was ever served.

But she doesn't tell anyone what her favourite food is - and for a very good reason.

The Queen has attended banquets around the world and tried a number of different cuisines, but when it comes to her favourite food, she's been keeping the exact dish under wraps for years.

But a royal insider has explained how she doesn't divulge her favourite food before travelling, so that she isn't served the same thing everywhere she goes.
