Queen grants 'favourite' grandchild rare privilege during Balmoral visit in Scotland

The Queen is said to give her grandchild a very rare treat when she visits Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands every summer.

The Monarch's youngest granddaughter Lady Louise Windsor is the 17-year-old child of Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex who love to drop by the estate every year

It's been reported that Louise has an artistic flair and a love of drawing - so the Queen has previously granted her access to a special collection of rare artwork.

A source previously told the Sun: "Because of her obvious artistic skill, the Queen allowed Louise to look through some of the collection of Queen Victoria’s Highlands sketches which are kept at Balmoral but are rarely dug out these days."

It's also reported that Louise has tried to share her skills with some of the younger royal family members while at the Scottish retreat.

The source added: "The Queen loves the fact that Louise and James [Louise's younger brother] relish their time at Balmoral, and she has become particularly close to Louise, who seems to have become her favourite grandchild, closely followed by James.

“Louise also endeared herself to everyone by looking after William and Kate’s children when they were up here.

“Louise loves drawing and sketching and was very patiently trying to get Charlotte to do pictures of rabbits and deer."

This year, the Queen's stay at Balmoral will mark the first summer holiday she has taken there without her beloved husband Prince Philip, who died in April.

It was a special place to the couple and is where she and Prince Philip spent part of their honeymoon in 1947.

However, she is unlikely to be alone for very long as members of her family are invited to spend time with her at Balmoral every summer.

A picture released following Philip's death showed the Queen and her late husband surrounded by their great grandchildren at their Scottish home.

But despite it being a holiday, the monarch still gets to work overseeing Government papers.

These are sent up to her by private secretaries in the red boxes also used by Government ministers to carry important and confidential documents.
