Queen Elizabeth II's former chef shares what she eats for lunch every day

Queen Elizabeth II's former chef has shared what she eats for lunch.

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations are well underway as the nation commemorates Her Majesty's 70 years on the throne. Queen Elizabeth II is 96-years-old and was in great spirits yesterday as she enjoyed the Trooping the Colour.

Darren McGrady used to be the royal chef at Buckingham and he has opened up on the Queen's balanced diet. He told House and Garden that a typical lunch would be Dover sole on a bed of wilted spinach.

Alternatively, Queen Elizabeth also liked to enjoy a low carbohydrate option of grilled chicken with salad while Darren was the royal chef. Her Majesty is said to avoid starchy food such as pasta and potatoes when eating alone.

The chef told Hello! that a book of menus would be sent up to the Queen each week. He added: "The chefs would pick the menus and she would put a line through the ones she didn't want. Sometimes she'd put a line through it all and put something different."
