Queen Elizabeth II health: Do we get a day off in mourning if monarch dies?

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral with doctors concerned for her health.

Buckingham Palace has said that after being checked over by doctors this morning, Queen Elizabeth II is being kept comfortable at Balmoral. The 96-year-old monarch pulled out of a virtual Privy Council on Wednesday, a day after appointing Liz Truss as PM at her home in the Scottish Highlands.

A Palace spokesperson said: "Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

The Queen's close family have rushed to be by her side as fears grow around the Monarch's health. The country would enter a period of mourning should Her Majesty pass away - as Mirror Online reports.

The plan following the Queen's death is known as Operation London Bridge, and will see Royal Household to the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers request that religious buildings ring their bells with muffles in order to create a more solemn sound.

Full details of Operation London Bridge were leaked last year, giving a full day-to-day run down of what will happen when the Queen passes away. The day will be known as D Day, with the days following called D Day plus the number of days that have passed.

The Queen will be buried 10 days after she dies, it is expected, and Charles will embark on a tour of the UK before the burial is held. The day of the funeral will be a Day of National Mourning, but employers will not be compelled to give staff a day off.

The service will take place at Westminster Abbey, and a two minute silence will be held across the UK at noon. A committal service will be held at St George's Chapel, which is at Windsor Castle, where the Queen will be buried at King George VI Memorial Chapel.
