Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died aged 96.
The nation is in mourning after Buckingham Palace released a statement to confirm the Monarch has passed away. It said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow. "
The Queen's eldest son, King Charles, has automatically ascended to the throne after her death. The Monarch was the rightful heir based on the Succession of the Crown Act 2013.

The next in line to the throne is now the monarch's eldest son, Prince William. Prince William was formerly known as the Duke of Cambridge.
However, he will now inherit his father's previous titles as the Prince of Wales. He has also inherited the titles of Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay.
His wife, Kate Middleton, will become the Princess of Wales and will also inherit the titles Duchess of Cornwall and Duchess of Rothesay.
Prince William and Kate's three children, George, Charlotte and Louis are next in the line of succession.
Prince Harry is fifth in line to the throne and his title has subtly changed after his dad's ascension to become King.
His previous title was Prince Henry, The Duke of Sussex. However, this will now change, Prince Henry, The Duke of Sussex, and the son of the monarch.
