Queen Elizabeth II: All the ways you can pay tribute to Her Majesty in Edinburgh

Tributes have already flooded in for Queen Elizabeth II since the news of her death broke on Thursday, September 8.

An announcement from Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening read: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Passing away at the age of 96, the Queen had seen a reign over the country for 70 years, with everyone from world leaders to celebrities paying their respects to the monarch.

In the coming days, Edinburgh will play a large role in the national mourning operations, with the Scottish capital to see the Queen arrive at Holyrood on Sunday. From there, Her Majesty will be taken to St Giles' where she will lie in state for 24 hours, before her body is taken down to London.

The city has already seen some major changes in the last 24 hours, with more to come as plans are finalised for the procession later this week.

Those in Edinburgh who wish to pay tribute to the Queen can now do so in many ways over the period of national mourning, which will last 10 days.

These include:

Writing in the official book of condolence

Speaking on social media, the Royal Family issued a message to the public containing an official guide to the mourning, as well as a link to an online book of condolence.

Floral tributes

A number of floral tributes have already been laid by members of the public outside of the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

With many more expected outside of the royal residences across the country, the palace have issued the following official advice:

"At the Palace of Holyroodhouse, members of the public are encouraged to give floral tributes to the Wardens at the entrance to The Queen’s Gallery. Those flowers will be laid on the Forecourt grass in front of the North Turret of the Palace."

Attend the procession from Holyrood

Expected to take place on Monday, September 12, the Queen will be taken from Holyrood to St Giles' where a service will be carried out. The Queen will then lie in state for 24 hours before being taken back to London.

Timings are still to be confirmed for the event, however hundreds of people are expected to line the street from the Canongate up the Royal Mile to St Giles' to watch Her Majesty.

Road closures have already been put in place by the council, with further updates to come in the next few days.
