Queen Elizabeth House Edinburgh: Boris Johnson's new UK Government hub in the capital is complete

Boris Johnson's new hub in the heart of Edinburgh is now complete and ready to host UK cabinet meetings.

It comes as the Prime Minister said last month that he plans to spend a lot more time in Scotland in a bid to strengthen the union.

The new seven-story office at Queen Elizabeth House is located near the Royal Mile next to Edinburgh Waverley Station and it will host 3,000 UK government civil servants.

The office also has its own UK Government cabinet meeting room where Boris Johnson plans to regularly host meetings.

According to Holyrood magazine, many government departments will move into the hub including the Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Office of the Advocate General, HMRC, HM Treasury, the Cabinet Office, the Office for Statistics Regulation, the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Government Actuary’s Department.

In July it was reported that the government thought it was "absolutely right" that the UK Government should be "visible and meeting in Scotland."

It comes as Boris Johnson revealed that he will be taking a two-week holiday to visit Scotland, with more trips planned throughout the year.

It is hoped that the Prime Minister will be able to regularly host his entire secretary at the 'modest and modern' facility at Edinburgh's Queen Elizabeth House as a way of showing the government's "commitment to the union."

The news comes as Boris Johnson reportedly decided to 'block' Nicola Sturgeon from attending UK cabinet meetings.
