The Queen will host Joe Biden at Buckingham Palace in her first major diplomatic engagement since she left the capital during the coronavirus pandemic, it has been reported.
Her Majesty, 94, is said to be determined to get "back to business" after nearly a year of Covid-19 restrictions and lockdowns preventing her carrying out her public duties.
She is poised to lead a post-Brexit charm offensive when the new US President and other world leaders visit the UK as part of the G7 summit in Cornwall in June.
Prince Charles, Prince William and the duchesses of Cornwall and Cambridge will reportedly join the Queen for the "soft power" reception.
The Monarch will reportedly also have a one-on-one meeting with Biden, her first significant diplomatic engagement following her planned return to Buckingham Palace.
A senior royal source told The Times: “There is a desire from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to have a very strong royal presence before G7 events, and all senior members of the royal family will be part of what happens.”
She will return to London in time for her 95th birthday in June in what should be the first major national celebration since the outbreak of the pandemic, the Sunday Times reports.
The Trooping the Colour military parade on June 12 falls two days after the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday.
It is set to be the first public reunion of the royal family since “Megxit”.
The Queen left London just before the first lockdown was called in March.
She headed for Windsor Castle where she isolated with her husband and a small number of staff.
During the first wave of the pandemic Her Majesty was largely out of action, holding her weekly meetings with Boris Johnson over the phone rather than in person.
She did make two rare televised addresses to the nation during the lockdown however.
After spending her actual birthday, April 21, with Prince Phillip in lockdown, celebrations for her official big day in June were moved from London to Windsor.
Aside from brief stays at Sandringham and Balmoral, the Queen and her husband have spent almost all of lockdown in Berkshire.
Last year they celebrated their first Christmas at Windsor since 1987.
The atmosphere at Biden's reception will likely be very different to the one held for Donald Trump's visit.
Both Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge were noticeable absentees for the visit of the 45th US president.
On his state visit to the UK in 2019, Mr Trump decided to forego many traditional protocols, including flying to Buckingham Palace instead of arriving by car.
The Prince of Wales, a passionate environmentalist, is understood to be delighted at Mr Biden's decision to prioritise tackling climate change during his presidency.
