The Queen has scrapped plans for a traditional pre-Christmas lunch gathering with the Royal Family 'with regret'.
The plans were scheduled to take place next week in the run up to Christmas at Windsor Castle and would have been attended by several members of the Royal Family.
However, it is understood that the Royal Family's plans for Christmas Day are still set to go ahead as hoped.
A source said this is a 'precautionary' measure taken in the midst of the steep rise of Covid cases in the UK, reports the Express.
A senior palace source said: "The pre-Christmas family lunch will not be going ahead.
"The decision is a precautionary one as it is felt to put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead.
"While there is regret that it is cancelled, there is a belief it is the right thing to do for all concerned."
According to reports, The Queen still wants to host her immediate family at Sandringham over the Christmas holidays but is still taking advice on if such a gathering would be safe.
