Queen ‘banished staff’ during showdown with Prince Harry over Megxit to avoid leaks

The Queen ordered staff to stay out of the way during her discussions with Prince Harry over Megxit, it has been claimed.

The showdown took place on January 13 last year at Sandringham Estate where the Queen is said to have "banished" household staff in a bid to avoid leaks to the press, the Express reports.

It was revealed during Channel 5's Royal documentary 'Secrets of the Royal Palaces'

Glynis Barber, narrator of the documentary, said: "The Queen wanted absolute privacy and chose the secluded Long Library, the location of her first televised Christmas address.

"Only a handful of key lieutenants were allowed inside the room."

Royal commentator Emily Andrews added that both Prince Harry and the Queen had their private secretaries with them, but household staff were "banished".

Ms Andrews said: "The Queen instructed all of her staff to keep to the other side of the house. They wanted to keep it as private as possible, they didn't want anything being leaked to the press."

In the run up the showdown, the royals ware said to have been "crumbling" despite trying to present a "united front".

The meeting, which was also attended by Charles and William but not the Duchess of Sussex, discussed details of how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would leave the Royal Family.

Prince Phillip did not attend the meeting as he is said to have viewed Harry's departure as a "dereliction of duty".
