Queen and Kate Middleton send sweet birthday messages to Archie as tot turns one

The Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have sent sweet messages to Archie as the royal tot celebrates his first birthday.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's little boy was born a year ago today, and even though he's now living on the other side of the Atlantic he's still front of his family's minds.

The Queen shared a photo of her and Prince Philip when they met Archie for the first time at Windsor Castle a few days after he was born.

The lovely shot also includes Meghan's mum Doria Ragland and was taken shortly before the Sussexes introduced him to the world at a photocall.

The Monarch's message reads: "Happy Birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today!" with a red balloon emoji.

She continues: "Archie is The Queen’s eighth great-grandchild."

Over on the official Kensington Palace social media accounts, Kate and William shared a photo from Archie's christening.

The snap shows Meghan and Harry and their little boy sitting in Windsor Castle's Green Drawing Room with Charles, Camilla, Kate, William, Doria and Princess Diana's sisters.

The family look happy and proud in the colourful shot, taken by the very talented photographer Chris Allerton.

They wrote: "Wishing Archie a very happy first birthday today!" with a balloon emoji.

Archie will be spending the special day at his new LA home with his mum and dad.

The couple were reportedly originally planning a party with all their A-list friends, but that has changed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl told OK! magazine she believes Meghan will be cooking up some delicious organic, sugar-free treat for the family.

She said: "Meghan’s an amazing cook and loves being creative in the kitchen so I think she’ll have been busy baking so Archie can enjoy his first taste of birthday cake this week.

"It will be organic and possibly sugar-free. Something suitably healthy for a one year old.

"If the weather ’s good, I think they’ll be splashing around in the pool too.

"Archie has everything he needs but his parents don’t spend silly money on toys and clothes.

"Gifts for his new nursery will be welcome but they’ll also appreciate presents that hold meaning rather than material value, such as a donation to a children’s charity or sponsoring an animal in the wild."
