Queen and Duke of Edinburgh both receive first doses of coronavirus vaccine

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been given their Covid-19 jabs, Buckingham Palace have announced.

The Royal couple join more than a million people across the UK to have received the vaccination so far as the country remains in coronavirus lockdown.

The palace does not normally comment on private health matters for the 94-year-old head of state or her hubby.

It is understood that the decision was made by the Queen to release the information publicly to prevent inaccuracies or any speculation.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the news on Saturday (PA)

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: "The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have today received Covid-19 vaccinations."

A royal source confirmed the injections were administered by a royal household doctor at Windsor Castle.

The Queen and Philip have been spending the lockdown in England sheltering at their Windsor Castle home after deciding to have a quiet Christmas at their Berkshire residence, and forgo the traditional royal family gathering at Sandringham.
