Quartet is a comedy about four retired opera singers who are old, but not past their prime. Reggie, Cissy and Wilf once reigned over the opera world, but are now living happily in a country retirement home. Each year they look forward to their gala concert, staged in honour of Verdi’s birthday.
But the trio need their fourth member, Jean so they can practice the quartet from Verdi’s Rigoletto. Diva Jean is Reggie’s ex-wife, although he’s been trying to forget about that.
The 2012 film version was directed by Dustin Hoffman, and starred Maggie Smith and Michael Gambon. For the stage version, Andrew Moore directs Christine Amor, Andrew McFarlane, Trevor Stuart and Kate Wilson. The show will tour to regional Queensland.
