Quarter of voters opt for postal option in Almond and Earn by-election

Almond and Earn residents took to the polls yesterday for their ward’s Perth and Kinross Council by-election.

But around a quarter of voters opted for a postal vote.

Perth and Kinross Council said it had issued 2015 postal ballot packs to an eligible electorate of 7903 in the Almond and Earn ward.

The by-election was called following the death of SNP Almond and Earn councillor Henry Anderson in December 2020.

Voters who did head to one of the 10 polling stations used for today’s by-election were asked to observe strict COVID restrictions.

One way systems, limited numbers, PPE and single-use pencils were just some of the changes put in place.

The nominated candidates for the Almond and Earn Ward were: Michelle Yolande Frampton (SNP), Craig Masson (Labour), Claire McLaren (Liberal Democrat) and Frank Smith (Conservative).

The count will take place today (Friday, March 26) from 10am at Bells Sports Centre in Perth.
