Quarantine rules could change while you are on holiday

Quarantine rules for people returning to the UK could be changed while you are on holiday under updated travel guidance from the UK Government.

At present, there are 74 countries on a list considered safe by the Government - meaning you can travel there and return to the UK without having to isolate for 14 days when you get back.

That list includes Greece, Italy and Spain - although there are concerns Spain could be removed from the list after a surge in cases of coronavirus.

Now the Government looks set to change the way it reviews the safety protocols, meaning the rules could change just before you are about to go on holiday - or even while you are abroad.

At the minute the list of safe countries is reviewed every three weeks.

The Government is expected to replace that with a rolling review system from Monday, which could mean countries being taken off the safe list at short notice.

Travel experts say they are already seeing cancellations in places such as Spain's tourist hotspots.

Hotels which are normally 100 per cent full are currently running at 65 per cent capacity.
