Quarantine-free holidays to Spain, Portugal and France could get go-ahead tomorrow

The UK's first air bridges with Spain, Portugal and France could be given the go-ahead as early as tomorrow, according to reports.

UK travellers could be free to go on abroad from July 4 under plans being drawn up by Boris Johnson.

The Prime Minister is expected to give the green light to deals that have been put in place to allow for quarantine-free travel, reports the Daily Mail.

Major airlines and tour operators are set to be briefed on the plans tomorrow.

It would mean Brits could go abroad without having to spend 14 days in quarantine when they return.

Foreign tourists would also be able to come on holiday to the UK without having to self-isolate on arrival.

The Daily Mail reports that ministers are drawing up plans for travel between the UK and Portugal, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey.

Currently, the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel.

But the ban on overseas travel is expected to be relaxed imminently for the first time since lockdown began.

Ailing holiday firms, who have lost millions this year, are likely to launch big sales in a bid to lure nervous Brits abroad.

More countries are expected to be added to the scheme in the coming weeks.

Earlier today Mr Johnson indicated overseas travel advice would be reviewed within days.

The Prime Minister said: “The current advice is still that people should avoid non-essential travel.

“We will be reviewing the situation on the 29th, we will be looking at the quarantine rules and what we can do to create air bridges.”
