Quantum Computing Stocks: D-Wave Earnings Miss, Revenue Tops Views

D-Wave Quantum on Thursday reported a wider-than-expected second-quarter loss while revenue topped views as investors focus on the growth and profitability outlook for quantum computing stocks. D-Wave stock fell on the news.

For the June quarter, D-Wave reported an 8-cent loss on an adjusted basis versus a 10-cent loss a year earlier. Revenue rose 42% to $3.1  million.

The company attributed to wider-than-expected loss to "non-cash, non-operating charges related to the remeasurement of the company's warrant liability."

Wall Street analysts had forecast a 5-cent loss on revenue of $2.5 million.

On the stock market today, D-Wave stock fell 2.3% to 17.20 in early trading, suggesting it will hold the 50-day line. Shares have a a still-valid 20.56 consolidation buy point that D-Wave briefly topped in late July.

Heading into the earnings report, D-Wave stock had advanced about 118% in 2025.

Meanwhile, IonQ on Wednesday reported a bigger than expected second quarter loss while revenue topped expectations. IonQ stock fell.

In the March quarter, D-Wave had turned profitable on an adjusted basis on a one-time revenue pop — D-Wave in February won a big deal in Germany. The Jülich Supercomputing Centre bought one of D-Wave's quantum systems.

The company has a new quantum project underway with Davidson Technologies in Huntsville, Alabama.

Quantum Computing Stocks Volatile

Quantum computing works on a subatomic level and uses exotic technologies, like supercold superconductor chips. Further, Quantum computing's ultimate benefit is that it aims to solve problems too complex for today's classical computers.

D-Wave stands out as the chief developer of one flavor of quantum technology. Founded in 1999 by researchers from the University of British Columbia in Canada, the company pioneered the process called "quantum annealing."

Meanwhile, Rosenblatt Securities recently initiated coverage on D-Wave stock with a buy rating.

Further, quantum computing stocks have been volatile in 2025 amid controversy involving Nvidia over how soon commercially viable quantum technology will be available.
