Quality Street truths exposed on how many of each chocolate you get leaving ITV viewers furious

This Morning viewers were left raging on Wednesday when the show exposed some of the hidden truths about Quality Street tubs that have frustrated Brits for years.

At the weekend a post went viral on social media of someone who emptied the contents of a tub - a must-buy for many Brits at Christmas - and was left disappointed to only find a few purple ones in front of him.

So, in attempt to see if that person was just unlucky or that is the norm, This Morning reporter Alice Beer counted out the contents of a tub of Quality Street in the studio, placing them out on the table in front of her as hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby looked on.

And the proof was in the colours as there was just four purple ones, compared to an abundance of orange cremes, with strawberry delights also well represented.

Alice explained: "You will only ever find four of the purples ones in the tub and four of the green triangles.

"You'll find about four of the milk chocolate blocks in one tub and then way up the other end, when you get to the big numbers, you'll get eight of the orange cremes and eight of the strawberry delights."

Alice told Phillip and Holly it was "a weight thing" but Phil fired back: "No, surely the orange ones are cheaper to make as they haven't got a real nut inside?!"

She responded, purple ones have got a real kudos, so they can only put four of them in a tin. It just makes it more special doesn't it?"

Alice also added that over the years the number of different flavours of chocolate in a tub of Quality Street had dwindled from 18 to 12.

Viewers were quick to respond, with one tweeting: "I will not be buying. The ratios of the chocolates are not in my favour! I love the nutty ones and hate things like strawberry, orange, coffee, coconut. I’ll stick with my Ferraro rocher and Lindt."

Another reacted: "Stopped buying them years ago for same reason," and a third posted: "strawberries and orange in any chocolates should be .. always left at the end.."
