Quality Street prompts outcry after axing Toffee Deluxe again

Chocolate lovers have been left devastated after Quality Street axed its Toffee Deluxe sweet for the second time.

The selection box treat has been replaced by a chocolate caramel brownie flavour instead, but the assortment remains at 12 sweets.

Fans of the chocolate rejoiced when it was brought back in 2017, but have been disappointed again after it was dropped.

The move was branded a “travesty,” with fans saying “Christmas won’t be the same.”

One Twitter user said: “This is so annoying Nestlé - the Toffee Deluxe is the best one!”

Another added: “Quality Street axing the Toffee Deluxe is not the news I wanted today, that's one of the best!”

While a third commented: “They keep taking the popular ones out, don’t think I’ll be buying Quality Street this year.”

The Toffee Deluxe was one of the original sweets featured when the assortment box launched in 1936.

Nestlé confirmed the move and said the new sweet will be fully rolled out later this year.

A spokesman said: “Well, we know we got your attention the last time we dropped the Toffee Deluxe so couldn’t resist trying it again!

“But seriously, everybody’s got a favourite Quality Street and the assortment has changed a lot over the years.

“Every now and then we like to introduce new exciting flavours to the mix and are certain that our delicious chocolate caramel brownie will be a hit for 2019.”
