Quality Street fans demand Coffee Crème comeback after another old sweet returns

Quality Street has announced the return of a discontinued chocolate to its tins - but some fans have complained that the chocolate makers should have brought another old favourite back.

The Nestlé company broke the news as they unveiled a new-look tin that will be available in John Lewis, just in time for the festive season. In a Facebook post, they revealed that the Honeycomb Crunch will be included in the new tins - a flavour last seen in 2018.

Some were pleased to see the honeycomb sweet back - but the news caused uproar among many Quality Street fans, who wished that another popular chocolate had been re-introduced instead, The Mirror reports. The comments section quickly filled up with requests for the Coffee Crème to make a return - despite it being discontinued more than 20 years ago.

"Never mind the new one, can I have the coffee one back please?" one Facebook user commented in response to the news.

Another added: "Yes please would love the coffee ones back, even a full tin would be nice."

"Bring back Coffee Crèmes please and thank you," a third pleaded.

A fourth lamented: "Awwww. I was really hoping that Coffee Crèmes would make a comeback."

Despite last being part of the Quality Street mix in the 90s, the Coffee Crème has certainly not been forgotten. In fact, the chocolate was overwhelmingly voted last year as the one that most fans would like to see make a comeback, with Nestlé admitting that they receive more enquiries about it than any other discontinued sweet.

After more than 8,000 out of 20,800 people surveyed voted to bring the chocolate back above other past flavours, Emily Grimbley, assistant brand manager for Quality Street, said: "Many Quality Street fans have an old favourite, and our survey has shown that when it comes to our sweets, absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Although the Coffee Crème hasn't featured in the mix since the turn of the millennium, it’s clear that it still holds a special place in the nation’s heart."

But fans of the Coffee Crème should not lose hope - as the sweet could well make a triumphant return in the future due to popular demand. Replying to a comment about the chocolate on Facebook, Quality Street wrote: "We'll let the rest of the team know you'd like to see them back!"
