Stating that quality education and moral values will play a crucial role in building a strong nation, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has called upon educational institutions to pay adequate attention to ensuring quality education and instilling noble values in students.
“Quality education and strong moral values positively transform your lives and thus help build a strong nation. India is on the path of tremendous progress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to building a new India by linking education with skills and values. Mahatma Gandhi believed that quality education based on moral values will help in the development of both mind and body. You may develop into a great scientist or a writer with good education. But education you get will be meaningful when it is used for the welfare and progress of the people and nation,” Mr. Gehlot said.
He was addressing the ninth convocation of the Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University on the outskirts of Ballari on Tuesday.
Drawing attention to the challenges that the world is facing, Mr. Gehlot said that education based on Indian ethos will help the world face the challenges and take it on a new path of progress and prosperity.
“Ancient Indian philosophy held that the whole world is a family. We have the responsibility of developing an educational system based on ancient Indian knowledge and ethos blended with modernity. Such an educational system can help address the modern challenges and lead the entire humankind on the path of development,” he said.
Mr. Gehlot, who is also the Chancellor of the Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, presented an honorary doctorate to N. Tippanna and Narendrakumar Baldota. Another dignitary Hiremagalur Kannan, who has also been selected for a honorary doctorate, could not attend.
As many as 51 gold medals were presented to 42 undergraduate and postgraduate students who have made remarkable achievements in academics. And, 26 research students were conferred with doctorate degrees. Rank certificates were presented to 118 students (61 undergraduate and 57 postgraduate students).
Supriya from the Industrial Chemistry Department, Ustalamuri Surendra from the Mineral Processing Department and Srinag M.G. from the Commerce Department bagged three gold medals each. Renuka U. from the Physics Department, Archana K.M. from the Chemistry Department and Prasanna Kumar A. from the Social Work Department got two gold medals each.
Legislators Somashekhar Reddy and Allam Veerabhadrappa, University Vice-Chancellor Siddu Algur, Registrar Shankargouda C. Patil and other senior faculty members were present.
