CINCINNATI _ One day after a wrist injury healed enough for Francisco Cervelli to come off the disabled list, a quadriceps injury returned him to it.
Cervelli went back on the 10-day DL less than an hour before Saturday's game because of what the Pirates called left quad irritation. Elias Diaz, whom the Pirates optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis when they activated Cervelli Friday, rejoined the active roster.
Cervelli injured the quad while scoring from second base in the third inning Friday.
"We brought him in, treatments, some activity, trying to get him some more treatments and see if there's any opportunity for more activity," manager Clint Hurdle said.
Cervelli was not available for comment before the game. He has now gone on the disabled list four times, twice because of concussion symptoms, once due to an injury to his left wrist _ related to the surgery to remove the hook of the hamate bone in that hand last summer _ and now for the quad.
