Quad bike rider, motorist die in separate Central Australia crashes, one on Finke race track and the other near Hermannsburg

The crash occurred on the Finke track, near Alice Springs.  (ABC Alice Springs: Samantha Jonscher)

Police are investigating two separate fatal crashes that occurred in Central Australia over the last 24 hours.

A 27-year-old quad bike rider died after a collision with a motorbike rider on a dirt race track near Alice Springs.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on the Finke track — where the annual Finke Desert Race is held — near Maryvale Road, about 4pm on Friday.

The male quad bike rider was declared dead at the scene, while the male motorbike rider, 24, was taken to hospital in a serious condition, according to Northern Territory police.

Since then, the 24-year-old man has been flown interstate for treatment.

Major crash detectives remain on the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Later, emergency services were called to the scene of a single vehicle rollover on Larapinta Drive near Hermannsburg in the early hours of Saturday morning.

One adult male was declared dead at the scene, while three adult males were injured and taken to hospital, one of whom was in a serious condition.

Police remain at that scene as well, with delays expected as a result of traffic restrictions.

Reports will be prepared on each incident for the coroner.
