Quack held for rape of minor who ended life in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER: Police on Friday arrested a quack for raping a minor girl who had committed suicide by jumping into a water tank on July 5 in Ramgarh area in Jaisalmer.

On the day of suicide, police got a suicide note which mentioned the quack’s name. Later, police exhumed the body and got the postmortem done by medical board.

SHO Chunnilal Vishnoi said that the father of the deceased in a report said that on July 5, around 9.30pm, the body of his minor daughter was found in a water tank in his brother’s house. Being unaware about the law, the family on the next day buried her as per rituals. Next day (July 6) around 7.30pm, a suicide note was found near the stairs built near the tank and there were also some burnt paper pieces nearby.

Names of two persons were written on the paper, including that of the quack, Purnaram. The father accused that Purnaram had provoked her to commit suicide.

SHO said that the next day they wrote to the district administration for further action and wrote to the medical department for forming a medical board for the postmortem. Tehsildar Pushpendra Panchal and SHO Vishnoi reached the spot and exhumed the body and in the presence of the family members, the medical board team including Dr Nikhil Sharma, Dr Manohar Singh, Dr Santosh Kanwar and Dr Ranveer Singh conducted postmortem and took samples of viscera.
