QPR vs Portsmouth: Prediction, live stream, TV channel, team news, tickets - Carabao Cup 2019-20 preview

QPR vs Portsmouth
EFL Cup 2019-20, second round
Venue: Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium
Date: Wednesday, August 28, 2019
Kick-off time: 7.45pm BST

QPR welcome League One side Portsmouth to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this evening for their EFL Cup second round contest.

Rangers triumphed over Bristol City in the previous round, and manager Mark Warburton is looking for a victory that would not only seal a place in the third round draw, but help foster a ‘winning mentality’ at the club.

But Rangers won’t underestimate Pompey.

Kenny Jackett’s team picked up a Championship scalp in the first round with a 3-0 win over Birmingham City at Fratton Park, and R’s boss Warburton is more than aware of Portsmouth’s strengths.

“Kenny has got a squad there that he knows has quality and come May they will be towards the top of the division, there is no doubt in my mind about that,” said Warburton.

“We have to prepare well, analyse them and show how we can hurt them hopefully. It’s all about us securing progress into the next round.

Team news

QPR will be without Luke Amos, Geoff Cameron, Olamide Shodipo and Lee Wallace this evening.

Tottenham loanee Amos and Cameron both sustained hamstring strains against Swansea City last week and missed the weekend’s win over Wigan.

Wallace – who joined from Glasgow Rangers in the summer and still to make his debut – is back in training but Warburton and the medical team will ease the Scot into first team action having missed pre-season with a hip injury.

Meanwhile Shopido, who hasn’t featured since the opening day of the season, is expected to be sidelined for up to three more weeks.

As for the visitors, they will be without Lee Brown after the left-back suffered an Achilles injury in the 3-3 draw with Coventry.

Brown is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks, with Portsmouth academy graduate Brandon Haunstrup set to deputise for Kenny Jacket’s side.

Prediction | QPR 2 Portsmouth 1

Providing Warburton instils the right focus in his side tonight we expect Rangers to progress to the third round, in what will be a tightly-fought contest.
