Sam Allardyce has confirmed that Mauro Zárate is set to move to Queens Park Rangers on loan from West Ham United until the end of season.
Zárate, who was having a medical at QPR on Tuesday, has rarely featured since joining West Ham on a free transfer from Vélez Sarsfield last summer and the Argentinian striker has accused Allardyce of refusing to select him because he was brought to Upton Park by the club’s co-owner, David Sullivan.
The hope for QPR is that Zárate will provide a creative spark in their fight against relegation. Allardyce, however, has not been convinced by the 27-year-old’s merits. Zárate has only played eight times for West Ham, scoring twice, and he has been frustrated at finding himself behind Andy Carroll, Carlton Cole, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia in the pecking order.
“I now have the chance to play for a coach who has faith in me and will not allow his personal feelings to get in the way of what is good for the team,” Zárate told the Daily Mirror on Monday night. “I respect the other strikers at the club who have done a good job. But I believe my record entitles me to respect and I have not had that from the manager. The chairman has confidence in me. I know this because he brought me to the club. But for this reason the manager has refused to play me. He did not want me.”
