QPR hand Albion Rovers star big chance as Cliftonhill ace enjoys London trial

Albion Rovers forward Kyle Doherty has landed himself a huge chance with a trial at English Championship club QPR.

The 20-year-old is suspended for the Cliftonhill side's Scottish Cup third round tie against Ayr United this weekend, and has been down south training with a view to potentially joining their developments squad.

Doherty has struck seven times in 21 games in all competitions for the League Two side this season.

He was previously on the books of St Mirren and made his Albion Rovers debut in 2019. QPR currently sit fourth and in the Championship's promotion play-off spots as they eye England's Premier League.

Manager Brian Reid told the Daily Record: "Kyle is down training with Queen’s Park Rangers this week. It is a great opportunity for him to go down and train in a full-time environment at a top club.

"He has worked hard and done well for Albion Rovers. Kyle has come in, scored a few goals and been really impressive.

"It is good he is being recognised by a number of bigger clubs. We made the conscious decision to go with younger players this season and at Albion Rovers we have made it clear that we will not stand in a player’s way if he has the chance to move up to a higher level.

"Kyle now has this opportunity and we will see how he gets on."
