QPR goalkeeper Liam Kelly's Motherwell return set to be completed next week

Liam Kelly is set to return to Motherwell on a permanent transfer from QPR before their opening game of the season.

The 25-year-old will return to Fir Park in the coming days after a hugely successful loan spell last season, according to the Sun.

Kelly was a revelation for Graham Alexander's side in the second half of last season and his standout performance earned his Motherwell's Players' Player of the Year award.

The former Rangers goalkeeper's return will be a massive boost to Motherwell ahead of their opening Premier Sports Cup clash against Queen's Park on Wednesday,July 14.

Dundee United were also linked with a move for Kelly but it appears that the Steelmen have won the race ahead of their Premiership rivals.

Kelly made 21 appearances for Alexander's side last season and he spoke glowingly about his time at Fir Park.

“I’ve loved my time here,” Kelly said after Motherwell's final game of the season against Ross County.

“I’ve felt the warmth from all the fans and obviously I’ve seen positive things on social media about me.

“I'm so thankful for all the support from the Motherwell fans and I’ve absolutely loved it.

"I must say a massive thanks to the coaching staff and manager, especially my goalkeeping coach Hinchy [Craig Hinchcliffe].

“He’s been a massive reason why I’ve enjoyed my time so much here but so have all the staff.

“It’s been an unbelievable experience. I’ve made a lot of friends including boys that I didn’t know before I joined.

“I felt comfortable straight away and that really helped me. I’ve had one bad game since I arrived but if you offered me that before then I’d have been delighted."
