QPR braced for Michael Beale approach as Wolves step up new manager pursuit

Target: Michael Beale

QPR are braced for an approach from Wolves for their manager Michael Beale.

Wolves have made Beale their top target to replace Bruno Lage, who was sacked earlier this month, and are set to ask Rangers for permission to speak to the 42-year-old.

QPR, who play Cardiff at Loftus Road in the Championship on Wednesday night, face the prospect of losing a manager they only appointed on a three-year contract in the summer.

Having built a strong reputation as a youth coach at Liverpool and then on Steven Gerrard’s staff at Rangers and Aston Villa, Beale has impressed in his first managerial job at QPR and has led them to sixth in the Championship.

Beale this week insisted he “could not be happier” at the Rs, though he stopped short of confirming he would turn down a move to the Premier League if offered one at this stage.

It has been reported that Beale’s contract includes a release clause.

QPR look like early contenders for promotion after a superb start to the season and Beale’s work has impressed Wolves, who sit 17th in the Premier League after their 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Wolves are searching for a new manager with Lage sacked on October 2 after picking up just six points from their first eight Premier League games.
