QPR boss rues missed chances against Bristol City as life without Nahki Wells proves difficult

QPR boss Mark Warburton rued his side's missed chances against Bristol City, as they struggled without new Robins signing Nahki Wells.

Wells spent the first half of the season on loan at QPR, scoring 13 goals in just 20 Championship starts, but signed for Bristol City on January 30 after being recalled by parent club Burnley.

And he made his Bristol City debut against his former side on Saturday, coming on in place of Jamie Paterson on the 63rd minute.

A bullet diving header from Famara Diedhiou secured all three points for Lee Johnson's side, who continued their good form and have now won four of their last five games in the league, keeping four clean sheets in a row.

But Warburton was left frustrated with QPR's lack of cutting edge. Speaking after the game, he told the Kilburn Times: "It's about putting the ball in the back of the net and I'm repeating myself game after game which is frustrating for everyone concerned.

"We're creating lots of chances and we had games like Swansea and Cardiff where we are very clinical.

"But again, you saw the players' effort and quality second half, it was just that final bit of guile to put the ball in the net and get that reward.

"We had so many chances and so much of the ball. I feel very frustrated.

"Against a very good team who are going to be pushing, we've had that sort of dominance.

"They're a good team and an expensively assembled team.

"I hope the fans can see how hard the players are working but you've got to put the ball in the back of the net and get your rewards."

Nahki Wells has a conversion rate of 28.9 per cent this season, over 10 per cent better than any of Bristol City's strikers and better than QPR forward Jordan Hugill's 14 per cent, and would have been missed by Warburton as his side failed to convert any of their 18 shots.

Upon his signing for Bristol City, Wells promised fans that he will put away chances that are given to him in front of goal. He said: "I've always been known for scoring goals and trying to be in the right place at the right time if the chances are being created I definitely know I'll be able to score them.

"We have a lot of creative players here who create chance after chance and I'm just looking forward to being on the end of all of that."

Bristol City now sit in sixth place in the Championship, level on points with fifth place Brentford and just five points off the top two of West Brom and Leeds.
