Qld ute driver clocked at 213km/h: police

Police say a fixed speed camera clocked a ute driver travelling at more than 210km/h along the M1. (AAP)

A man allegedly caught travelling at more than 200km/h has had his ute seized and been charged with dangerous driving.

The 48-year-old driver came to the attention of police via the speed cameras on the M1 highway on the Gold Coast.

He was allegedly detected driving at 212km/h in the northbound lanes at Gaven, where the speed limit is 110km/h, just after 2am on Wednesday.

Seven minutes later, the same Holden ute was allegedly recorded travelling at 186km/h at Yatala, meaning his average speed over the 26-kilometre distance was 213km/h.

Police found the vehicle at a Currumbin Waters home on Thursday and said the registered owner admitted driving at the time.

It was seized for a mechanical inspection and the man is due to appear in Coolangatta Magistrates Court on January 18.
