Qld terror plotter loses court appeal

Agim Kruezi was sentenced to 17 years and four months in jail for planning a terrorist act. (AAP)

A Queensland man who obtained 10 litres of petrol and glass bottles to make Molotov cocktails after being prevented from travelling to Syria to fight with a terror group has lost a bid to appeal his jail sentence.

Agim Kruezi, 28, obtained the petrol in a plastic jerry can, corks and glass bottles over 13 days in 2014 because he was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Australia.

He also transported a .22 calibre rifle from Sydney to Logan, south of Brisbane.

He hadn't decided on a target, but police stopped him when the attack was "at least planned to the point where Mr Kruezi had obtained weapons to carry out a brutal attack", according to a Queensland Court of Appeal judgment published on Tuesday.

Months earlier authorities stopped Kruezi from travelling to Syria where he planned to "engage in a hostile activity".

He was sentenced in 2018 to 17 years and four months imprisonment with a non-parole period of 13 years for planning the terrorist act.

He also received a concurrent jail term of three years and six months for preparing for incursions into a foreign state.

Kruezi appealed the sentences and the fixed non-parole period, but his appeal was dismissed.
