Queenslanders are set to swelter as a heatwave brings soaring temperatures to much of the state.
Temperatures will peak up to 10C above average in southern and central areas from Saturday, the Bureau of Meteorology says.
"We're looking at very hot conditions developing in much of the interior," meteorologist Felim Hanniffy said on Friday.
"We'll see daytime maxes approach the low, even mid-forties."
Birdsville is set to hit 41C on Saturday and 44C on Sunday. Longreach is forecast to bake with 40C and 42C for the same days.
Coastal areas are also expected to be warmer than usual with temperatures up to 5C above the average forecast.
But sea breezes will keep maximum temperatures lower, with 31C and 32C forecast for Brisbane on Saturday and Sunday.
Ipswich can expect a top of 38C on Saturday and 36C on Sunday.
"But once you go inland, the temps will be well above average," Mr Hanniffy said.
Minimum temperatures are also likely to be warmer than usual, with some areas forecast to record lows in the mid to high twenties.
"So little respite overnight," Mr Hanniffy said.
The hot spell is set to peak on Monday before easing on Wednesday when a southerly change restores near to average temperatures to most of the state.
