Qld records 784 new COVID-19 infections

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the state's hospital system has been coping well. (AAP)

Queensland has detected 784 new COVID-19 cases but the health system is coping, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says.

There has not been a spike in case numbers with just 70 more infections recorded over the past 24 hours compared to Sunday's 714 cases.

"We are expecting those case numbers to increase," Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Monday.

"We are not seeing the impacts on our hospital system to date".

Ms Palaszczuk said just four people were in a hospital because of virus symptoms.

"We are monitoring this very, very carefully," she said.

Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said the low case load in hospital "suggests the vaccine is working".

He reminded Queenslanders to get a booster vaccine when they become eligible.

Meanwhile, Ms Palaszczuk said the government was considering using rapid antigen tests instead of PCR tests for traveller's Day five tests and this could be introduced within the next 48 hours.

Dr Gerrard said the state's quarantine rules are also being reviewed, hinting these may be relaxed.

It comes as online bookings open for children under 12, with the vaccinations set to start from January 10.

There are 3621 active cases in Queensland and 24515 people were tested in the past 24 hours.

About 75 per cent of cases are the Omicron variant.
