Qld prison unrest leads to inmate lockdown

Inmates have been locked down after reports of fires and unrest at a central Queensland prison. (AAP)

A central Queensland prison is in lockdown after unrest in a number of units, with reports of damaged property and inmates accessing the roof.

Capricornia Correctional Centre, just north of Rockhampton, went into lockdown on Thursday morning when emergency response plans were activated.

There have been no reports of injuries to prisoners or workers so far, Queensland Corrective Services said in a statement.

A number of small fires have been extinguished and initial reports estimate about 30 inmates are involved.
