Qld police surround house in Ipswich

Queensland police declared an exclusion zone in Ipswich as they negotiate with a man in a house. (AAP)

Police have surrounded a house at Ipswich in southeast Queensland and urged nearby residents to remain indoors as they try to make contact with a man in a house following a disturbance.

Queensland Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) and established an exclusion zone due to the incident at Gailes on Monday afternoon.

It was not clear if the man was armed.

Members of the public are advised to avoid the area, police said in a statement.

Those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors and limit movement until further notice.

Queensland Police told AAP on Monday evening that a man inside a home alone was refusing to come out and officers were negotiating with him and it may take a while to resolve.
