Qld police probe crash after three killed

Detectives are probing a car crash in which two adults and a two-year old boy died near Rockhampton (AAP)

Central Queensland police are investigating a fatal car crash which killed three people, including a two year old boy, and injured two others.

A 59-year-old woman and the toddler died at the scene after the white Holden sedan left the road and crashed into a culvert at Clarke Creek, near Rockhampton, about 10pm on Thursday.

An 18-year-old man died while being rushed to Rockhampton Hospital.

A female passenger, 18, suffered head and abdominal injuries and is in a serious condition in the same hospital.

A 20-year-old man, who police believe was the driver, is being treated in hospital after suffering minor injuries.

All five people in the car are from the Rockhampton area.

Police said the car had crashed in wet conditions on Marlborough Sarina Rd, between Rockhampton and Nebo.

The wet weather hindered an initial police investigations and reportedly ensured a helicopter couldn't be sent to the crash site.

"There has been a significant amount of rain in the area over the past couple of days, whether that has contributed to the crash itself is part of the investigation," Mackay Police District Acting Country Inspector Damian Wells told ABC.

"Our response was hampered by the weather; it's obviously a lot harder to do this when it's pouring rain."

Investigators are asking for anyone that may have passed the vehicle, or anyone with dash-cam footage, to contact police.
