Qld man questioned over woman's death

The boyfriend of a woman killed in Queensland's far north allegedly fired a shotgun into a stranger's car north of Mackay.

The 38-year-old was taken into custody without incident at a service station in Proserpine on Sunday evening and transferred to Mackay.

The man is yet to be questioned by detectives after the body of a Townsville woman was found in bushland on Saturday.

The 44-year-old mother-of-four's remains were discovered by teenagers on quad bikes at Bluewater.

Police believe the woman died at the location and Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said it didn't appear there had been any attempt made to conceal her body.

The cause of death has not been confirmed with an autopsy expected to be conducted on Tuesday.

Det Insp Shepherd said the woman recently moved to the area and the relationship with the man who is known to police was quite recent.

Investigators attached to Operation Uniform Umbara expected to interview the man later on Monday.

Police allege the arrested man was involved in an incident at Yarlboroo on Sunday morning, where a shotgun was discharged into a passing vehicle on the Bruce Highway.

"There was an incident about 40 kilometres south of Proserpine where a motorist had a shot fired at them."

Police said the man had been driving back and forth on the Bruce Highway before the shooting which seemed to have been sparked by the matter of driving, Det Shepherd said.

"The person of interest was driving behind this person ... both vehicles were driving quite slow in the overtaking lane, and our person of interest allegedly pulled out a shotgun and fired a shot at the person's vehicle which hit the back of the driver's side door and the roof."

The second driver was not injured and the 38-year-old was taken into custody nearby.
