A Queensland man has faced court over a boat crash which killed a 21-year-old passenger.

Jamie Luke Harwood was allegedly behind the wheel of an aluminium dinghy with another three people on board when it hit a private jetty on the Brisbane River about 4.40pm on November 4.

A passenger on the boat, Nicole Herbert, 21 of Ipswich, died at the scene.

Harwood, 46, appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday after being charged in March.

He faces one count each of dangerous operation of a vessel causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving a vessel without a licence and failing to provide a blood specimen.

Another man and a child, together with Harwood, were taken to hospital with minor injuries after the crash in the Brisbane suburb of Chelmer.

Harwood, from Thorneside, southeast of Brisbane, is due to have his case mentioned again in the same court on May 24.
